History

Born in 1946, the Dominican Republic is an interesting mix of history and a unique Caribbean setting.
Santo Domingo , the capital, dates from 1490 and has some of the oldest structures in the Western Hemisphere.
The
Zona Colonial, urban districtdesignated by UNESCO as a World Heritage Site in 1990, has one of the largest and most complex preserved sixteenth-century colonial world.
Today in Santo Domingo's colonial heritage is mixed, with a bustling contemporary city. The city has a variety of cultural offerings, restaurants and sports venues, infrastructure and good access to the best beaches in the country with lush landscapes.

The Port of Santo Domingo is located at the mouth of the Ozama. Its location in the center of the Caribbean is well suited for flexible route planning, as well as for transfers due to the excellent road and airport infrastructure in the region of Santo Domingo.
The renovation of the port is part of a redesign of the coastline, aimed at integrating the port area and the Colonial Zone to create an attractive destination for cruise ships , yachts and a tourism high profile.
With the support of the legislation passed in 2005, the project developed by Sans Souci Group also includes the development of a
marina and about 122 acres new mixed housing development near the port of leisure.
The renovation of the port began in late 2005 and includes the renewal of Don Diego Terminal (completed in December 2006) and the construction of the new Terminal Sans Souci which began operations in December 2008 with the arrival of the "Legend of the Seas" operated by Royal Caribbean.
